Well today we quickly nipped over to Bugle first thing in the morning to collect a faulty ECU that we had previously diagnosed. We are hoping to send this to a specialist ECU reconditioner and repairer- fingers crossed that this will solve the problem. All being well, this will save our customer approx £800-£1000 so it's definitely worth the time and effort.
We are now at St Austell Motor Co working on a Jaguar XJS. This unfortunately failed on it's MOT on a number of things. The customer has a few vehicles so is not in a rush to have it fixed. We have been fitting this vehicle in when we can. Today should hopefully be the last of the MOT repairs for this vehicle. There have been a few things holding the repairs of this vehicle up. The first is finding the correct parts for it. Unfortunately there are no more road springs made at all for this model so a quality 2nd hand part has had to be sourced. The main issue is corrosion. We would strongly recommend anti corrosive treatment on older vehicles- particularly if you are an enthusiast or want to keep your prestigious pride and joy on the road. It might seem like a waste of time and money but it is worth it's weight in gold later on down the line. Often this is something that can be done yourself and if you have your owner's manual it should state greasing points and recommended frequency. Underseal is also invaluable on older vehicles as it can avoid costly welding repairs.
We are then carrying out a few MOT failures on a Vauxhall Vectra this afternoon. We are hoping that this won't be a problematic as the XJS! Fortunately Gavin spent a long time working in a Vauxhall dealeship (as well as others) so he should have this car up to speed in no time!
